we've had spring weather on and off here in the bay, which gave me the opportuniy to wear my favorite floral dress to a wine festival a couple weeks ago.  it's a rare occassion you'll see me in anything strapless as things don't usually want to stay in place on my body type but this one has some major rubbery elastic in the bust that actually does its job.  that extra asymetric inset just adds a bit of "flair" that makes an otherwise simple dress a bit more interesting. oh, and we can't forget the pockets.  they're the icing on the cake when a dress has them, don't you think?

 a few snaps from last weekend down at the boardwalk in santa cruz.  damien and my mom share the same birthday so the saturday before, the whole family went down south for a day filled with sun, sweets and lazy strolling. to my delight i found i was pretty much in carnival camoflage with the colorful 1960s shift that i wore-- it had been in the shop but it's migrated from my shop rack into my closet. a good pop floral print gets me every time.  as for my badass tattoo (damien's initials in old english, complete with shamrock graphic - so classy!) it was a joke i surprised damien with towards the end of the day. i'd like to think that it  made his birthday complete.

here you have a long overdue blog update of some of what's new in the boutique-- at the moment the newest of the new includes a lemon and mint color story-- one of my favorite palettes for spring and all over the place in the fashion mags at the moment.    the update preceding this soft palette was pretty much the opposite-- bright fuschia, corals and blues.  so whether you've got a spring wedding to go to, or a bachlorette party in vegas, we've pretty much got you covered.

"Miss Elliette"

if there's one thing our landlord is good for-- its for inadvertently providing "authentic vintage backdrops".  our building hasn't been renovated since around the time this dress was made-- oh, sometime around the early 1960s or so.  so with that in mind i thought it would be nice to take advantage of our low-lit lobby and take some snaps of this dress before going to dinner last weekend.
now about the dress--  it was the collar that initially drew me in of course, and the matching cuffs just sealed the deal.  i just love the swingy chiffon pleats as well, and although  i'm hanging on to this one, in the shop i've got another cocktail dress by the same "miss elliette" label that's got  a similar feminine cut, and just as adorable.  i've learned to scoop up a "miss elliette" as soon as i see it.  they always seem to be so super feminine and classic.  two things i always seem to look for when buying vintage.
